My process begins with sculpting the low fired clay objects that I will use. Once they have been sculpted, dried, fired, and painted, stained, and/or glazed I begin to string them together in strands. Trying out different combinations. Then I attach the strands to the hanging rod made of steel and adjust their length and positions.
Over the course of several weeks I will continue to add to strands of the clay objects until I am happy and satisfied with the overall shape and flow of the piece. As you can see, it is a long process but one I enjoy immensely. I worked on The White King for three months.
